Born in Lima, Perú (1962) | Lives and works in Miami, Florida
In my paintings, I draw upon two powerful influences that deeply shape the meaning and identity of my work: my roots and my life abroad.
A vital part of my visual inspiration comes from Peru—my homeland—which, despite the passage of time and physical distance, remains ever present. Its timeless landscapes, rich and partially hidden history, customs, people, and personal memories all infuse my art. I refer to this influence as Geometrization—a term that captures the way these elements manifest in my work, as a persistent call to keep them alive and visible.
Equally significant is the role of my adoptive city, Miami. Its constant flux, cultural collisions, stark contrasts between wealth and poverty, and vibrant natural beauty create a complex visual and emotional environment. Miami, with its new-city energy, raw materialism, underlying violence, sensuality, and the deep yet often overlooked Southern roots, becomes another essential layer in my artistic language.
Some of my paintings resemble torn veils, punctured with holes, inviting the viewer to search for what lies beyond—perhaps a face, a place, a memory, an emotion, or simply something hidden, waiting to be discovered.
